Lake Forest, Illinois-Bears rookie linebacker learned the hard way Wednesday about the NFL's crackdown on helmet hits. He was fined $21,000 by the league for lowering his head while making a bone-jarring tackle against Chargers receiver Mike Willie last Thursday night.

The NFL has tried to discouraged players from hitting with their helmets.  Now with the growing issue of concussions and the possibility of future lawsuits the league is going one step further by making those hits illegal.

The Bears disagree with the NFL's ruling. Veteran linebacker Lance Briggs was among those players who came to Bostic's defense Wednesday.
Bostic could appeal the fine.

At the moment the rookie second round pick out of Florida is the Bears starting middle linebacker, at least until D.J. Williams recovers from a calf injury.
