128 and a half sacks in ten seasons says it all about what Jared Allen can do. This former Viking and former Chief is all about getting to the quarterback.
"I like to break a guy down," says Allen. "It’s a matter of time before an offensive lineman is going to make a mistake, and I’m gong to take advantage of it."
Allen immediately becomes the Bears starting right side defense end…the same spot that used to belong to Julius Peppers. Allen had 11 and a half sacks last season four more than Peppers produced.
At 32 Allen’s best seasons are likely behind him, but he believes he can still be that premier pass rusher that every NFL team needs.
"I feel like I’m still the best at what I do. If not the best then one of," says Allen. "Watch me play this year. I’m in great shape. I’m a full year now off of surgery on my shoulder. Workouts are going phenomenal. I’m excited."
"He's a relentless player," says Bears GM Phil Emery. "He’s an energy player. Successful in all areas of his life."
Allen loves the Bears takeaway mentality on defense. And he knows first hand how talented the Bears are on the offensive side of the ball.
"I know what it takes to prepare for this offense. It sucks. When you go to play them you’re like, aw."
Allen senses the Bears are a team that could make a run at the Super Bowl next season.
"What attracted me here is the opportunity to go out and win it. To earn it and win it and be a part of it and be a piece of that puzzle."
