Bears Lose, But Trubisky Impesses In Debut

CHICAGO - The Bears lost their preseason opener to the Broncos 24-17 Thursday night, but many Bears fans came away from the game smiling thanks to the performance of Mitch Trubisky.

The rookie quarterback entered the game late in the second quarter. Moments later he fired a two yard touchdown pass to Victor Cruz.  Trubisky led two other scoring drives that resulted in field goals. However one final drive ended on an incomplete pass thrown to the endzone as time expired.

Trubisky completed 18 of 25 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown. He did not turn the ball over. He also rushed for 38 yards on three carries. Trubisky's quarterback rating was 103.1.

"I thought it was fun," Trubisky said. "That's what I wanted to do, to go out there and be consistent, move the ball on offense and be in command in the huddle and at the line of scrimmage. The offensive line did a great job taking care of me, and the running backs and receivers did a great job of catching and running with the ball. It was a good start, but we have a long ways to go."

Mike Glennon's Bears debut did not go well. He completed only two of eight pass attempts. His second pass was picked off by Chris Harris Jr. and returned 50 yards for a touchdown.

John Fox says the performances of his quarterbacks won't change the quarterback depth chart. Glennon is still the number one guy.

"Our depth chart is not going to change after one game," Fox said. "That's a really good defense our first unit went against, probably one of the top three defenses in the league. You have to look at a lot of different things. I can understand how you guys might think [we could make a change], but we're not going to change a whole lot after one game."

Running back Benny Cunningham scored the Bears' other touchdown on a one-yard run in the third quarter.
