Wootton is battling Shea McClellin for the starting job at left end opposite Julius Peppers. That's the position Israel Idonije played, but the Bears let him leave through free agency in the offseason.
Wootton came on last season in part-time duty. The former Northwestern Wildcat had seven sacks. He's always had the ability to get to the quarterback, but he's been injury prone.
Wootton wants to be a force on the Bears defense this season.
"The biggest thing I'm doing is come out here and prove myself all over again and compete," says Wootton. " I want to do everything I can to put pressure on the quarterback. I don't want to set a specific number (of sacks), but pressure is always good."
