Lawmakers control school purse strings

ILLINOIS -- School districts could face more challenges if lawmakers pass deep budget cuts. Last month, lawmakers released a preliminary budget blueprint.

It showed schools potentially facing a nearly $1 billion drop in funding beginning July 1. That's a 360 from the nearly $1 billion increase the Illinois State Board of Education wants.
