$20 Million Makeover Set for U.S. 20 Bypass Bridges

Money appropriated for reconstruction work of bridges over Rock River
ROCKFORD -- $20.8 million has been approved for the reconstruction of the U.S. Route 20 bypass bridges over the Rock River Gov. Pat Quinn announced on Thursday.   The bridges carrying the U.S. Route 20 Bypass on the south edge of Rockford over the Rock River will be reconstructed for $20,842,811 by Civil Constructors, Inc. according to the Governor's Office.  The project will be overseen by the Illinois Department of Transportation.  No timetable for reconstruction to begin was given.

“Our investment will make sure this vital U.S. Route 20 river crossing in Rockford will remain safe and efficient for years to come,” Governor Quinn said in a news release. “The project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”  The project is part of his $31 billion 'Illinois Jobs Now' program.
