A Doctor's Visit Could Get Easier for Veterans

WQRF/WTVO - A trip to the doctor's office could become a little easier for veterans in rural parts of Northern Illinois.
WQRF/WTVO - A trip to the doctor's office could become a littler easier for veterans in rural parts of Northern Illinois.

Congressman Adam Kinzinger introduces new legislation that would allow vets who are more than sixty minutes from a V.A. facility, to contract for care locally.

He says a pilot program in five states has worked so well, he wants it expanded nationwide.

"It really helps to maintain veteran health care, it makes it more accesible for veterans, and it tries to allieviate the problem of people who live in rural areas who have a real hard time getting to somewhere, maybe for just a checkup."

The Congressional Budget Office is still working on figures on just how much the program would cost.
