The American Cancer Society began taking blood samples and family history backgrounds in Rockford and Belvidere today. They're looking for people aged 30-65 who've never had cancer.
Researchers will then follow up with the volunteers for the next 20-30 years hoping to find patterns and eventually cures. "We're asking people to give up a little of their time and information we that we can start figuring out ways to keep people from hearing the words 'you've got cancer'" says Kelli Evans of the American Cancer Society.
The nationwide study hopes to sign up 300,000 volunteers. They're accepting volunteers from Rockford and Belvidere for the next two weeks.
