Birds Ground Chicago Flight Bound For China

CHICAGO - An American Airlines flight leaving O'Hare for Shanghai encountered a flock of birds during takeoff.

CHICAGO - An American Airlines flight leaving O'Hare for Shanghai encountered a flock of birds during takeoff.

The incident Sunday caused the captain to declare an emergency return to the airport.  The aircraft landed safely.  15 crew members and 237 passengers were on board.

The plane returned to the gate and was taken out of service for maintenance.

The passengers were able to take another flight later.
