SPRINGFIELD - Participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will see a reduction in benefits.
The cuts will take effect Nov. 1. The Dept. of Human Services says the cuts are due to the expiration of the temporary increase put in place by the federal American Recovery and Investment Act of 2009. IDHS says it informed SNAP recipients of the changes by distributing flyers at local offices and placing notices on its automated hotline, websites, and social media pages.
The amount of benefits an eligible household will receive depends on several factors, including income, size, and expenses. Below is a list of how much a household could lose per month:
- Household of 1: -$11
- Household of 2: -$20
- Household of 3: -$29
- Household of 4: -$36
More than 2 million people currently participate in the SNAP program. For more information, click here or call 800-843-6154.
