WTVO/WQRF - American, a furniture and electronics store with a location in East Rockford, is closing all of its locations.
In a release, American says the last five years has been very difficult, but the down economy caught up to them.

"Words cannot adequately express how grateful we are to our millions of loyal customers, and to the incredible, dedicated family of employees that we have been blessed with over our 60 years of business.
989 employees at 11 locations will lose their jobs. American is filing a Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 128 Receivership for the protection of its creditors.
A going out of business sale will begin Thursday.
Gift cards will be honored and refunds will be provided for customers who don't wish to use them. All extended warranty policies will remain valid and insured through a 3rd party insurance company. Customers who have open orders waiting for delivery will either receive it or get a refund.
