Armed Robber Arrested, Causes Two Accidents Afterwards

A Rockford man robs a gas station, then causes two separate hit and runs while fleeing from police.
ROCKFORD - New this morning, Rockford Police are investigating an armed robbery to the Road Ranger off 11th street.

Police say 29-year old Shane Hooper went into the gas station around 1:30 this morning demanding money. When the clerk refused, he began destroying property and jumped on the counter.

After taking the money, Hooper ended up in two separate hit and run accidents, eventually abandoning the truck at 20th and Reed. He was later found and arrested near the Road Ranger.

Police say he also tried to rob a nearby McDonald's. The investigation is ongoing.
