ROCKFORD - Despite the warmer temperatures, city officials want residents to keep their water flowing.

Public Works Director Tim Hanson says the ground is still frozen and will stay that way well into spring.

"Our pipes are buried 5 to 6 feet below the ground surface" says Hanson.  "It will take many warm days for the thaw to reach that depth."

The city asked residents last month to continuously run their water so the pipes wouldn't get frozen.  Water service has been restored to all Rockford water customers.  The city will credit customers for running their water on a case-by-case basis.
