Former Rockford Schools Superintendent Tapped For New Job

ROCKTON - Dr. Robert Willis is on the move again.

ROCKTON - Dr. Robert Willis is on the move again.

Currently serving as the Meridian Schools interim superintendent, Willis' next stop is the Rockton School District.  He'll replace outgoing Rockton Schools Superintendent Michael Greenlee.

School board president Jim Meason tells Eyewitness News the board is very excited and surprised the "extremely accomplished" Willis would come in on an interim basis.  Meason says Willis agreed to a one year deal and the board has every intention of bringing him back for a second year.

Willis is expected to also play a role in the hiring of a permanent replacement.  Meason says Willis' expertise will be used to evaluate current employees at the district to see if there is an internal candidate who could eventually take the job.  If so, Willis can serve as a mentor to ease the transition.

There is one hurdle to clear, although it's just a formality.

The Rockton School Board meets Wednesday night at 6:30pm.  The board is expected to ratify the Willis' contract.  When it does, Willis' first day on the job will be July 1.

This'll be the third "interim" job Willis has taken.  He helped guide Rockford Public Schools through a teachers strike before taking the job with the Meridian School District.
