And, this is what it looks like now- a major improvement. And, here's another house before and after the owner got help from Home Forward.
It's a program which provides forgivable home improvement loans to qualified applicants.
"Were people cannot simply afford to go out and put a new roof on their house or do remodeling or put siding on their house that's in need of," said Mayor Jerry D. Bolin of Machesney Park.
The program has been in existence for thirteen years and rehabilitated 93 homes.
"I think we do a pretty good job of getting this information out we normally have at least enough applicants," said Bolin.
But this year they've only had nineteen applications and so they're working to get the word out before Friday's deadline because the results can impact more than just one home.
"If you bring up one home in your neighborhood, if you bring the value of that up you also bring the value of your entire neighborhood up," said Bolin.
Some of the requirements listed:
Residents have to meet income requirements.
Only single family detached homes qualify.
The owner must occupy the home.
It must be located in Machesney park.
And the owner must pass a credit check.
