Major I-90 and Irene Road Interchange Work to Begin

Project will mean detours and ramp closure for Belvidere area motorists.
BELVIDERE -- The Irene Rd. interchange to the tollway is about to get a major makeover, beginning with the construction of a new eastbound entrance ramp which will require the closure of the westbound exit ramp beginning June 1st.  Westbound traffic will be directed to use the Genoa Road interchange instead.

The Irene Road Interchange Project, including three new ramps, will cost an estimated at $10-$15 million and will be completed in 2015.

“The Irene Road Interchange Project will open up access to create new economic development opportunities for Boone County and neighboring Winnebago County,” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur in a news release. “It will also benefit existing commerce in the region, including the second largest UPS North American hub and the Chrysler Group’s Belvidere Assembly Plant.”
