One Local Fest Is Flying Back To Rockford This Summer

The Rockford International Airport had some exciting news Monday, telling locals that one of the city’s biggest summer events will be back and bigger than ever this year.
ROCKFORD-The Chicago Rockford International Airport gave locals a glimmer of hope Monday, with an exciting announcement to remind everyone that summer is not too far away.

Amy Ott, the Deputy Director of Aerospace at the Rockford Airport said that the fest will be bigger and better than years before.

"We are very excited to have our Rockford AirFest back this year. We are also happy to see that the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will be headlining the event."

Air Fest has two confirmed acts for the show, the Army Golden Knights and the headliners will be the Thunderbirds of the United State of America Air Force.

The Thunder will perform with the same team who headlined Air Fest two years ago.

"The Thunderbirds are coming back! We are so excited to have them back again; they have been here a couple times before and are always a crowd pleaser.”

Last year the event was canceled because of spending cuts to the department of defense.

Paul Cicero, a commissioner of the Rockford International airport said that this year will make up for last years absence.

"Last year we had sequestration, so we did not have an air show. Then 2 years ago the Blue Angels were grounded for six weeks during the exact time of our air show."

Not only is the return of the area's biggest air show something to be excited about, but it will also provide a jolt for the local economy.

“They estimated last time around about 3 million dollars in economic impact this event brings"

Cicero said that the show is all about quality of entertainment, and the Rockford AirFest brings in the best of the best.

“To put on an air show you know that people are really excited about and that we produce a hundred thousand visitors you need to have a big presentation."
