Rockford Gas Prices Creep Up

ROCKFORD - As drivers settle into a new month, gas prices are going up.

ROCKFORD - As drivers settle into a new month, gas prices are going up.

GasBuddy.com reports gas prices in the Forest City increased by four cents in the past week.  The new average is now $3.43/g.

It's slightly better than the national average, which is $3.49/g.

Still, even with the increase in prices, it's .15 cents lower than this time last year.

"Beginning the month with the lowest pump prices since 2010 is a nice way to start August" says Senior Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskoski.  "But, it's unlikely that we'll see gasoline production from coast to coast running as high in August as we'd seen during July."

Laskoski warns gas prices could go up if oil refineries drop their utilization.
