Senator Mark Kirk is vying for major changes, based in part on what he heard at the Hines VA hospital near Chicago. He met with workers at the facility over the weekend, who say there's a climate of corruption among managers at the facility.
"I think a lot of our employees were losing hope that anyone was really listening to what was going on at Hines," said Hines social worker Germaine Clarno. "The culture of intimidation and harassment for anyone standing up for the quality of care is out of control."
After visiting the facility, Senator Kirk called for Joan Ricard, who has been director at Hines since 2012, to resign.
