ROCKFORD -- Rock River Valley YMCA looks to be a part of the world's largest swim class
ROCKFORD -- Taking a dip for the record books. The Rock River Valley YMCA calling all swimmers to try to set a guinness record for the world's largest swimming lesson. It's part of a global effort to break the old record of over 32,000 swimmers across five continents. But there's a serious side to the attempt-- bringing awareness to drowing related deaths in young people.
"Drowning is the second leading cause of death in kids aged one to fourteen." YMCA aquatics director Carla Logan says. "And we want to make sure everybody is safe and aware of their surroundings in the water".
The "Y" has swim lessons for children as young as 6 months old.
