ROCKFORD- "This is just too cold for too long." (see attached video)

That's why dozens of stateliners are flocking to the Chicago Rockford International Airport. They're escaping the frozen midwest for the desert sun.

"We're looking to go to Arizona."
"Today it's in the 80s."

They're not the only ones. It's been so cold this winter airlines have seen a 40-percent increase in flights booked to warm weather destinations like Mexico, Florida, and California. Rockford airport officials say they also have seen an increase in bookings this winter season.

"We don't have traffic numbers yet but we do know we got more seats in market which again part of that is going to be weather driven. A cold winter is good for southbound bookings, said Zach Sundquist, Manager of Air Service Development at Chicago Rockford International Airport.

Phillip Schroeder is returning from his Arizona getaway after spending a week with his family.

"It's a shock to come back and have to dress up warm like this so I wore an extra warm piece because I heard it was still winter," said Schroeder.

After two months of one of the coldest winters we've had in recent memory, travelers say the break the warm weather provides is worth every penny.

"Oh, yes! You get energized there. You really enjoy it. It's quite a place to be. It's just a wonderful warm climate," said Schroeder.
