UPDATE: Local Groups Advocate for Graduated Tax

Stateline residents of all ages head to Springfield to ask legislators to approve the Fair Tax Act in Illinois.
UPDATE.- The Fair Tax Act bill failed to make it out of a House committee on Thursday. Lawmakers say, according to the state's constitution, they can't enact a progressive tax.

ROCKFORD. - Early Thursday morning members of the Illinois Education Association, Jobs with Justice, League of Women Voters and SEIU went to Springfield to show their support in favor of a graduated tax in Illinois.
Hundreds of people marched today at the state's capital to ask legislators to allow Illinois residents to vote on whether or not they want a graduated income tax in Illinois.
Passing the Fair Tax Act would require a change to the Illinois constitution, which means legislators would have to approve the bill first, and then voters would have to approve it in the November election.
