UPDATE: One Man Dead in Tow Truck Involved Accident

Police identify the victim in Thursday night's deadly accident.
UPDATE (2:22pm): According to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office, Doolan was attempting to stop his car from being towed.  An autopsy shows traumatic pelvic injuries to be the preliminary cause of death.  Chief Deputy Coroner William Hintz says coronary artery disease and emphysema contributed to Doolan's death as well.

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as Scott Doolan of Rockford.  Due to the nature of the investigation, police are not identifying the towing company or the employee involved in the incident.

ROCKFORD -  One man is dead after being run over by a tow truck or the car he was towing.

Rockford police tell Eyewitness News it happened just after 11 last night in the 3300 block of North Main Street. The tow truck was removing a car from a nearby parking lot. A man then came out to confront the driver and assaulted him in the process.

Details are still limited, but the driver ran the man over with his truck or the car he was towing. The driver contacted police right away and the 54-year old man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
