UPDATE: Rockford Murderer Sentenced

ROCKFORD - The man who shot and killed a woman at a party in 2013 learns how long he'll stay in prison.
UPDATE (8/20/14): The Winnebago Co. State's Attorney's office reports Boose will spend 26 years in prison.  He reached a plea deal with prosecutors.  Instead of first degree murder, Boose pled guilty to second degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.  It stems from a shooting incident in May of 2013.  He fired into a crowd and killed 22 year-old Katelynn Gurley.

Joe M. Boose, 20, of Rockford, turned himself into the police department Saturday night. During the investigation, 2 firearms were recovered. Boose is currently on probation in Winnebago County.

He's now charged with first degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon in the death of Katelynn Gurley, 22, of Rockford.

Gurley's family says the mother of two attended a party in the 600 block of College Avenue where she was shot during an argument.

Police responded to that incident shortly before 3:30 Saturday morning. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
