UPDATE: Two Under Arrest In Loves Park Shooting

UPDATE (7/7/14): Investigators have charged two men in the shooting:

  • Bruce Jackson, 53, Spartanburg, SC: attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm
  • Jesse Owens, Loves Park: unlawful use of a weapon by a felon

Both men are being held in the Winnebago Co. Jail.

UPDATE (10:45pm): Loves Park Police say the victim is a 36-year-old man. He was shot in the face, but is currently in stable condition at RMH. Two men, one 31-years-old,  the other 53, were taken into custody about a mile-and-a-half away from the scene, in the 15-hundred block of Jenny Drive. They're awaiting charges from the Winnebago County State's Attorney's office. Police confirm there was a fight prior to the shooting.

LOVES PARK -- Just after 3pm, officers arrived in the 2000 block of Evans avenue to investigate a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers say they found a white male who had been shot. He was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital. No word yet on his condition.

Witnesses say it started with a fight between the victim and another man.  

Details are limited at this time. Eyewitness News has a crew on the scene and will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
