ROCKFORD - A violent start to the weekend in Rockford began with a shooting on the East side. Police say a group of friends were outside near the intersection of Buckbee and Barnes Friday night, when a black four door car drove past and fired shots at the group. One boy was shot in the chest and the shin, another in the lower back. None of the injuries are life threatening, and just hours later police responded to a home that had been struck with gun fire. Officers arrived in the 2300 block of Jonathan Avenue to find shell casings covering the scene. This is the second aggravated discharge incident at the scene since May. The two people inside were not hurt. Police are searching for a man who attempted to rob an elderly woman this morning. It happened on the 3000 block of North Rockton. Police say a 74-year old woman had been pushed to the ground when the thief tried to take her purse. She suffered minor injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call the Rockford police.
