WTVO/WQRF - The deadly virus is back for another season.

The Illinois Dept. of Public Health is already accepting birds to test them for West Nile Virus.  The agency awarded $3 million in grants to 92 health departments in Illinois to help find where the virus is most concentrated.

"Over the past five years, 507 human cases, including 30 West Nile virus-related deaths, were reported in Illinois" says IDPH Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck.  "Our local health departments... are on the front lines in the fight against West Nile virus and it is important they have the resources necessary to monitor mosquito activity."

High temperatures and dry conditions are a good indicator as to where the virus could pop up.  Mosquitos with the virus tend to multiply rapidly in those conditions.
