Local Vets & Programs Taking Note Of Government Shutdown

Vets Roll is currently planning their 5th bus trip to Washington D.C.
Rockford, Illinois- VetsRoll has taken more than 900 WWII and Korean War veterans to Washington D.C. on their annual bus trips. This year, with the government shutdown, there is a chance some of the memorials they visit might be closed.

Don Hilbig, is a Korean War vet, and he calls the government blocking off memorials, "dispicable." He also adds that in his experience, "seeing the soldiers in those memorials, standing up, going through battle, is very moving and brings back a lot of memories."

A group from Peoria was allowed to pass the barricades to experience the WWII memorial. That has been the case for any other military group of visitors since the shutdown began.

VetsRoll is not worried about the shutdown as of this point and they will continue to plan for their trip. You can learn more, or donate at www.vetsroll.org.
