ROCKFORD - For the next six weeks, a major on/off ramp connecting I-90 to east Rockford will be closed off.
The affected ramp is the eastbound entrance and exit ramps at U.S. 20/State Street. It's part of the Illinois Tollway's efforts to rebuild all four ramps. Existing pavement will be removed and new asphalt ramps will be built.
Detour routes are as follows:
To Chicago: Business U.S. Route 20/State Street traffic entering I-90 eastbound will be detoured south on Perryville Road, east on Harrison Ave. and then north on I-39 to reach eastbound I-90.
From Wisconsin: Eastbound I-90 traffic exiting at U.S. Route 20/State Street will be directed south on I-39 to exit at Harrison Ave. and reenter I-39 north to reach westbound I-90 and the open exit ramp to U.S. Route 20/State Street.
The interchange reconstruction is part of the 15 year, $12 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving The Future. The $5 million portion of the project is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2013.
