The Midway Village hosting an amazing collection of Civil War artifacts.
The letters, documents and speakers give an insight into daily life of the soldiers and how families in Rockford coped with the war.
Organizers say Rockford was a hotbed of republican activism and that played a key role in the outcome of the battle.
"We were the ones who were supporting people like Abraham Lincoln in his efforts to keep the country unified and two resolve the question of slavery which was a huge issue in this country," said David Byrnes, President of Midway Village.
The Civil War symposium is at the Midway Village Museum this Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
Tickets are $30, and $17 for students.
