ROCKFORD - The city offers a small token of appreciation for those who put their lives on the line for our freedom.
The Rockford Mass Transit District announced Tuesday they'll offer free rides for any veteran on Oct. 30. The rides are in conjunction with the 2013 Top of Illinois Stand Down for Veterans event.
The event is being held from 9am - 3pm at the Verdi Club at 782 N. Madison Street. Veterans in attendance can receive medical treatment, employment consultation, clothes, and hair cuts.
RMTD says the rides are to eliminate any transportation barriers so all veterans can attend. The rides will be offered from 8am - 5pm. A valid ID must be presented in order to receive the free ride.
