Rockford Park District Offering Several 'Warm-up' Events on Monday

Facilities open for those with kids home from school who still want to be active.
ROCKFORD – With many schools and events closing Monday, the Rockford Park District will offer special 'School's Out' activities on Monday, January 6th.
  • Washington Park Community Center, 3617 Delaware St.:  The Rockford Park District is extending School’s Out camp opportunities at Washington Park Community Center on January 6, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Washington Park Community Center is typically open when school is not in session and provides a fun, safe, and positive environment where participants can take part in sports, play board games, access the computer lab, and take part in other recreational opportunities.  The program is free for current Washington Park Community Center and Lewis Lemon Community Center members and is only $30 for non-members. This one-time membership fee provides access to Washington Park Community Center for the rest of the school year. Registration is taken on-site but with a limited capacity (first-come, first-served basis). Lunch, an afternoon snack, and drinks will be provided.
  • Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Rd., Loves Park
    •Public Skate, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    •Adults: $5.00 ($5.50 Non-Resident) / Youth: $4.00 ($4.50 Non-Resident)
    •Skate Rental: $2.00
  • Sapora Playworld (Inside Carlson Ice Arena)
    •10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 
    •General admission rates apply
  • Indoor Sports Center, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park
    •Open soccer and volleyball for high school students, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 
    •Basketball, 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    •$5.00 ($6.00 Non-Resident)
  • Discovery Center, 711 N. Main St., Rockford
    •10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    •All exhibit galleries open along with the art studio. Planetarium shows in the afternoon.
    •General admission $8.00 (Members and children age one and younger - free)
  • Harlem Community Center, 900 Roosevelt Rd., Machesney Park
    •School’s Out Fun Day, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    •$25.00 per child

    •$5 fee (No charge for all youth currently enrolled in before or after school program)
