WTVO/WQRF - The economic recession wreaked havoc on Rockford, but the feds are stepping in to help.
The U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development will announce Thursday it's adding Rockford to the Strong Cities, Strong Communities Initiative. The program is part of the Obama Administration's commitment to help cities hit hard by the recession bounce back.
The initiative aims to help Rockford more efficiently invest existing resources, provide advice on local priorities, better align federal programs/investments, and facilitate new partnerships and peer learning opportunities.
Six other cities are being added to the list:
- St. Louis, MO
- Gary, IN
- Flint, MI
- Brownsville, TX
- Macon, GA
- Rocky Mount, NC
