It's no secret Rockford has serious problems. From high crime and poverty rates to low test scores, many areas of the community need work. That's where Transform Rockford comes in.
It was started by a group of concerned business and civic leaders looking to turn the community around. Woodward CEO Tom Gendron is leading the charge.
"So the idea is we want to facilitate a community dialogue transformation process. What we're gonna try to do is what many businesses do. We're gonna try to take it and holistically look at the community," said Gendron.
Gendron says with wide community engagement and a shared vision, real, dramatic change can happen.
"One of the things I'd like everyone to think about is why don't we be a top 25 community in the country by 2025? "
Gendron believes key concepts he's learned running a successful business will translate into building a successful community. But he cautions, the change will take time.
"This is the start of a long journey. Nothing is gonna happen overnight, not one year, this is a journey," Gendron said. "It's going to take a long time but I can tell by everyone here, I think everyone shows the passion for change."
