ROCKFORD - The verdict is in for accused murderer, Duran Johnson
UPDATE (11/6/13): A judge found Duran Johnson guilty of first degree murder, concealment of a homicidal death, and intimidation. He's scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 11. Since the victim was under the age of 12, the minimum Johnson could receive for the murder charge alone is 60 years. He faces a maximum sentence of 110 years in prison.
ROCKFORD - The bench trial begins for a Rockford man accused of killing a child.
Duran Johnson is charged with first degree murder and aggravated battery of a child, among other charges. They stem from the death of the 3-year-old daughter of Johnson's former girlfriend.
Police say both Johnson and Melanie Grant beat the girl. Grant agreed to a plea deal to testify against Johnson in exchange for a lighter sentence.
She is serving 22 years in prison.
