Video of 20 Car Pileup on Harrison Friday Morning

Chain reaction crash happened in 'slow motion' according to those involved. One of several ice related crashes Friday morning.
ROCKFORD -- Icy conditions on Harrison Ave. near Flynn Middle School created a 20 car pileup early this morning from a freezing rain storm that led to several minor crashes all across the Stateline.

The crash on Harrison happened at around 6am.  Drivers said conditions on the road were so icy, they were going as slow at 10mph and still could not stop.  One car took out a light pole.  Fortunately, there were no injuries.

The westbound lanes of Harrison were closed for about 3 hours for cleanup.

All morning, slick areas were being reported in Rockford and surrounding communities, bringing out calls for extra sand and salt in slick spots.

Crews worked overnight to keep main roads clear.  The biggest hazards were residential streets and patches of ice.  There were also several reports of medical help for falls on ice covered driveways and sidewalks.
