Casting For A Cure

A local fishing tournament will help children through the St. Jude's Children's Medical Center.
Rockford, Illinois-Fishing in the Stateline will take on added meaning this Saturday thanks to an event called casting for a cure.

It's a catfish tournament put on by a group of local men. The goal is to not only catch some fish, but also to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital to help fight cancer.

Contestants can fish anywhere they like in the Stateline. There will be a 500 dollar prize for the biggest catfish caught, and 250 dollars for the top three-fish stringer. Fishermen are encouraged to take kids out fishing with them since the event is all about helping kids.

"They deserve to have the sun on their back and a smile on their face," says tournament director Brad Richmond. "What better way to do it then to come out and relax, and spend some time with them. To help any way it makes us feel probably better than what they feel at the end of the day."

Parts of the tournament will be recorded and televised on the Sportsman Channel by Brotherhood Outdoors. There will be over $1,000 in merchandise given out during the event.

The weigh-in  Saturday will be at Big Mouth Bait & Tackle in Rockton.
