Aviators Edge Grizzlies

Aviators pitchers set a strikeout record Tuesday in a win over Gateway.
LOVES PARK, IL - Kenny Bryant came up big twice for the Aviators Tuesday night as he helped boost the team to a 5-4 marathon victory over the league-leading Gateway Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies led 4-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but Kenny Bryant equalized the game with a solo shot that left the park over the right field wall to tie the game up at four a piece.

Aviators pitching was on fire all night as they struck out a record 22 batters throughout the game and had a punch out in every inning except the final inning.

Ryan Zimmerman earned the no-decision tonight for the Aviators after pitching five innings and allowing four runs on eight hits, but struck out nine batters.

Each team loaded the bases in extra innings.  The Aviators loaded the bags with just one out in the bottom of the thirteenth inning, but were unable to push the winning run across.  The Grizzlies also had a chance to take the lead when they loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fourteenth inning, but were unable to score.

The Aviators finally clinched the win in the bottom of the fourteenth inning after Jeff Kremer doubled with two outs and was driven in by Bryant to push the Aviators ahead 5-4 as they picked up the win.
