Dofflemyer Takes Second At State Amateur

Belvidere's Hui Chong Dofflemyer settled for second place Friday at the Women's State Amateur Golf Tournament.
BLOOMINGTON-The list of Stateline women who have won the Women's State Amateur Golf Championship is a short one. Only four names are on it. Belvidere's Hui Chong Dofflemyer just missed adding her name to it Friday.

She was paired up against 18 year old Alexandra Harkins of Crystal Lake in the Championship Match at the Crestwicke Country Club. Harkins will head to the University of North Carolina on a golf scholarship later this summer.

Dofflemyer stayed right with her through the match. But Dofflemyer failed to capitalize on some short putts in the middle of the match that could have put her in the lead. Instead she trailed by two holes most of the way, and she wound up dropping the match 2-and-1.

Still her second place finish is something that has been topped only once in the last 37 years by a Stateline golfer.

"It's good. I just wanted to make the championship flight when I come down here," said Dofflemyer to Eyewitness News. "So I wanted to make the championship flight, and then I wanted to get through the first day and I did. So I didn't expect I was going to be in the final two.  So I'm really happy."

There was one other winner from the Stateline Friday. Madasyn Pettersen of Rockford defeated Angie Kim of Schaumburg to win the Third Flight.
