Guilford Honors Legendary Track Coach

Lee Marks retired after forty-seven years of coaching and he was celebrated Sunday afternoon.
Lee Marks has certainly impacted his share of Stateline students in the past forty seven years. Past students, faculty, friends and family gathered on the Guilford High School front lawn to celebrate Coach Marks’ retirement Sunday. In his forty-seven seasons as the Boys Track Coach, Marks changed too many lives to count. Guilford alums were able to share their memories of Coach Marks and many of them thanked him for shaping them into the person they are today.

“I never thought about college until I met that man. When I say he changed my life he really did. Words can’t express what he’s done for me as a person and not just a track runner,” says Bryant Chandler, a former Guilford relay runner.

“I’m going to miss the kids and I’m going to miss the camaraderie with the assistant coaches and the other NIC-10 coaches. They’re all wonderful people and men,” says Coach Marks.

Marks plans to spend lots of quality time with his grandkids during his retirement.
