Rockford Lands Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

Rockford will host the 2015 Division III College Championships of Ultimate Frisbee.
ROCKFORD, IL — USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate frisbee in the United States, announced that the 2015 Division III College Championships will take place in Rockford, IL on Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17. The event will be played at Sportscore 2 and will be hosted by the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. This marks the sixth annual Division III Championships and the first time a USA Ultimate championship event will be held in the Rockford Region.

“It is an honor to host the USA Ultimate Division III College Championships for 2015 in the Rockford Region. I commend the RACVB sales team for their hard work in bringing this premiere event to Rockford for the first time,” stated John Groh, RACVB president/CEO.  “We will do all we can to ensure the players and spectators enjoy their stay with us and that they look forward to coming back for future years.”

More than 800 student-athletes from 32 teams, 16 each in the men’s and women’s divisions, will compete in this championship event in 2015. Competitors and spectators are expected to spend $139,500 and fill 775 hotel rooms in the Rockford Region during the two-day tournament.

“Ultimate Chicago is excited for the opportunity to work with the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau for DIII Nationals in May 2015. We have always been impressed with the level of hospitality that Rockford consistently provides for our local tournaments, and we expect to organize a great event in this collaboration,” stated Gail Reich, committee member at USA Ultimate.

The USA Ultimate Division III College Championships will crown a national champion in the men’s and women’s divisions and represents the culmination of the college ultimate season for schools with enrollment of fewer than 7,500 students. Once again, the event will take place the weekend before the Division I College Championships. Additional information regarding this event can be found at http://www.usaultimate.org/index.html.

“USA Ultimate is thrilled to bring one of our showcase events to Rockford. The Rockford Region has a strong history of supporting national-level sports tournaments and offers the ideal facilities for our needs. Along with the support of Ultimate Chicago, we anticipate that our 2014 Division III College Championships will be one of our best ever,” said Byron Hicks, manager of events at USA Ultimate.
