IceHogs Fighting for Playoffs

The Rockford IceHogs have three big games this weekend and are fighting for a playoff spot.
Rockford- The IceHogs are entering the homestretch of their season and these next few games are going to be important ones.

“It's a tough weekend for sure travel wise. When we looked at it in August, it was one of the weekends we circled that was going to be a tough one,” says Head Coach Ted Dent.

The Hogs have to play eleven games in the next twenty-two days. They start out Friday night with back to back games against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

“GR is top couple teams in our league. They've lost some guys up to the NHL but they're still winning. They're still top of our league so we still need to take care of business,” says Adam Clendening, IceHogs Defenseman.

Rockford is tied for seventh place in the Western Conference with Oklahoma City but only eight teams make it to the playoffs.

"It's this time of year where guys have to step up and I call it gamers. You just have to show up and be a gamer. Give your best performance every game. We're stressing structure in our game right now. And team defense. Working from the net out," says Dent.

The Griffins have the third most points in the league and are defending Calder Cup Champs. But Coach Dent says they can’t get too far ahead of themselves.

"Just take it one period at a time. One game at a time. Don't look too far ahead. Let's just worry about Friday night. First period against Grand Rapids and try and build period from period. And go from there,” says Dent.

Puck drops at 7:00 Friday night at the BMO. We’ll have highlights for you at 9 and 10 on Eyewitness News.
