RVC Softball Duo Sign With Schools

Two players who led RVC to a national championship are moving on to bigger things.
ROCKFORD-After picking up a national championship and numerous post-season awards, Rock Valley College Softball’s star duo of Amanda Blankenship and Danielle Walker have now each picked up a pen to sign a national letter of intent with NCAA schools.

Blankenship will take her talents to the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana, an NCAA Division I university that competes in the Missouri Valley Conference.

As a sophomore this past season for RVC, Blankenship powered the Golden Eagles to a national title by going 4-0 in three starts with a 0.30 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings pitched at the NJCAA Tournament en route to winning NJCAA tournament MVP and Pitcher of the Tournament. Other post-season honors she earned include 2014 Dudley® NJCAA Softball Division III Pitcher of the Year, first team NJCAA All-American, first team All-Conference and N4C MVP, and first team All-Region for NJCAA Region IV. Blankenship was one of only four pitchers in the NJCAA DIII ranks to win at least 20 games as she went 21-5 with a 1.97 ERA in 34 games, while striking out 241 hitters (second most in the nation) in 181 innings pitched.

Meanwhile, Walker has signed with the University of Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, an NCAA Division II university that plays in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Walker finished the season with a .503 batting average, collecting 86 hits in 51 games, including 10 home runs, 82 runs batted in, and 63 runs scored to lead RVC in each of those five categories. She won a 2014 NJCAA Softball Marucci Elite Hitter award and was named first team NJCAA All-American, first team All-Conference, first team All-Region, and was selected to the NJCAA All-tournament Team.

Blankenship and Walker helped propel RVC to its first national championship for softball and a record-setting 42-9 season.
