Hjalmarsson Gets New Deal

The Blackhawks have signed Niklas Hjalmarsson to a contract extension.
Chicago, Illinois-The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson (JAHL-muhr-suhn) on a five-year contract extension, through the end of the 2018-19 National Hockey League season.

Hjalmarsson, a member of the 2010 and 2013 Stanley Cup Championship teams, registered five assists  and shared sixth in the league with a postseason career-best +10 plus/minus rating in 23 playoff games en route to the 2013 Stanley Cup title. The Eksjo, Sweden, native tallied 10 points (2G, 8A) and shared 11th among NHL blueliners with a career-high +15 rating in 46 regular-season games.

Originally drafted by Chicago in the fourth round (108th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Hjalmarsson, 26, has recorded 56 points (9G, 47A) and a +48 rating in 306 career regular-season games, while adding 17 points (1G, 16A) in 75 playoff tilts.
