Melton Done For Season

Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
LAKE FOREST-The Bears have lost their franchise tag player. Defensive tackle Henry Melton is done for the season. He tore a ligament in his left knee in the fourth quarter of Sunday nights' game in Pittsburgh. The knee buckled when Melton planted his foot while rushing the quarterback.

"We lost a very good player," said Bears coach Marc Trestman Monday. "Unfortunately, it's a next-man-up situation where the next guy has got to come up and be ready to play and help our football team.

"We're not happy about it, but this is the downside of the National Football League is players are going to get hurt and the team has got to respond."

In the offseason the Bears put the franchise tag on Melton preventing him from leaving through free agency. He had 13 sacks total he last two years. That's the second most by a defensive tackle in the NFL.
