Boylan to Rename Baseball Field

Boylan plans to dedicate its baseball field to former player David McCarthy.
Rockford, Illinois-Boylan High School is planning to rename its baseball field David McCarthy Field. McCarthy was a 1985 Boylan graduate who led the NIC-10 in batting.

He died later in the summer of 1985 in a boating accident. The field will be dedicated to McCarthy in 2014. His family has established a scholarship in his honor.

"He was a dandy all-around athletes," says former Boylan football coach Bill Thumm. "He was the most valuable player for conference championship teams in both football and baseball his senior year in addition to being chosen by his peers as homecoming king."

An anonymous donar has contributed a significant gift to Boylan's Imagine Campaign. That donor has requested the baseball field be renamed for McCarthy and the school is following those wishes.
