Huntley will be waiting for the J-Hawks at Belvidere North. Even with a full team Jefferson would have a major challenge with Huntley and it’s 6-8 center Amanze Egekeze who’s headed to Division One Belmont.
"We haven’t seen anybody with his size and his ability to step out, so he’s going to prove a large problem for us," says Jefferson Coach, Todd Brannan.
The J-Hawks will rely on their usual tenacious play on defense in this one.
"That has to be our strength. We have to win all the effort plays," says Brannan.
It’ll be a full house at Boylan for the rematch between the Titans and the Auburn Knights. Just last week Auburn blasted Boylan by 30 points to win the NIC-10 championship. The Titans will try to shake that off.
"I thought they were beyond physical and we never responded. We let them push us around a bit and that wasn’t the case the first time we played them. We’ve got to get back to playing physical halfcourt defense and controlling the tempo," says Boylan Coach, Mike Winters.
"We’re going to come out with the same intensity, same effort, same state of mind and we’re going to go hard," says Antoine Pittman, Auburn Forward.
"We know it’s going to be tough going against Boylan on their floor after the win we just put on them. I know it’s going to be tough one in here, and another great one," says Phillip Trammell, Auburn Guard.
It’ll also be a big game at the 3A Freeport Regional. Lutheran will face Belvidere. It’s a rematch of last season’s Regional Championship matchup. The Crusaders won that one in a landslide 71-46. A much, much tighter game is expected this time.
At River Ridge Eastland will try to ride All-Stater Dalton Shaner to a Sectional Championship against a tall and talented Indian Creek team. Shaner had 39 points in Eastland’s semifinal win over Dakota Wednesday night.
