Mercy for Animals has launched a campaign targeting Amazon over its sales of foie gras, one of the cruelest animal products ever conceived.
The video the group has posted shows how ducks are force-fed to create the super-sized livers that are later mulched into pate and served at elegant soirees. It shows, too, how the overfeeding causes the ducks to have difficulty breathing as their enlarging livers press against their lungs.
The Mercy for Animals video is so hard to watch I’m not going to embed it here, but you can link over and see it on YouTube if you need convincing.
Sorry, French people and others who “enjoy” this delicacy, foie gras is just too cruel. Like shark fin soup, there’s no way to justify it. It simply crosses the line.
Fortunately, as Mercy for Animals points out, many people are repelled by the force feeding of ducks and have taken action. California, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and Italy are some of the governments that have banned foie gras.
Retailers that just say no to this abuse include Target and Costco, among others.
So Amazon, Jeff Bezos and crew, if this video makes you squirm, you can do something about it.
