"Jobs and clean water, I can't think of more important priorities for this community," Stadelman said.
Governor Pat Quinn was in Rockford to announce a $15 million dollar low-interest loan to Winnebago with the plan to upgrade the village's water treatment system. Quinn has made it a point throughout his administration to bring jobs to the state by investing in infrastructure.
"When companies come and take a look at Northern Illinois or any part of Illinois, they want to look at 'What are we doing for our roads? What are we doing for our water systems?'" Quinn said. "It's important that we make these investments today so that we can create jobs today and tomorrow."
Winnebago Village President Frank Eubank says the funding is badly needed if his community wants to grow. Something that hasn't happened since the village reached it's waste water capacity of 400,000 gallons.
"We could not add additional new housing. We could not add additional new businesses. Which really hurt our area," Eubank said.
What will help the area is the number of jobs expected to come to the stateline. The state estimates 188 jobs will be created for the project, with 132 of them for construction.
"Whether you are a laborer or an operating engineer an electrician, whether you're doing something with plumbing and fitting, all those trades will be involved in this particular project." Quinn said.
"It's good news for those trades and more. Because it means jobs for our members," said Brad Long, President of Northwestern Illinois Building and Construction Trades Council. "It's no mystery or secret that the economy has been pretty tough on the building trades, and in this Northern Illinois area in particular."
"We've got to have good transportation, good water, and a well-skilled workforce. Weve got that workforce."
