A Long Walk for Poverty

- ROCKFORD - One stateline church with an extra special Ash Wednesday observance.

Shelter Care Ministries announcing one of its members will walk from Rockford to Washington, D.C. to personalize the face of poverty. Louisett Ness says she plans to start her walk on April 1st and travel 15 miles a day, weather permitting.

She says it's important for people to understand the plight of the poor in this country, a conversation she says has been avoided for too long.

"They don't talk about the conditions that keep people trapped in poverty," says Ness. "We live in a country based on wealth and prosperity and we have to underclass to survive, and people don't want to talk about that."

Louisett says she hopes to reach the nation's capitol in mid-May.
